Is the Portugal Golden Visa still available?

Yes — the Portugal Golden Visa programme continues, but property-based applications were removed in October 2023. You can no longer qualify by purchasing real estate (residential or commercial in mainland Portugal).

Current valid investment routes for the Golden Visa:

• Investment fund subscription — €500,000+ in qualifying Portuguese funds
• Capital transfer to research — €500,000+ to research or technology projects
• Cultural heritage donation — €250,000+ to arts/heritage activities
• Job creation — 10+ new jobs or 8+ jobs in a low-density area
• Capital transfer for share purchase / share capital — €500,000+

The Golden Visa grants residency, eventual citizenship eligibility (after 5 years), and visa-free Schengen travel.

Property purchase remains entirely allowed for foreigners — just no longer counted toward Golden Visa qualifying investment.
